The first restaurant opened by "organic celebrity chef" Akasha Richmond. Richmond wrote the cookbook "Hollywood Dish," is the official spokesperson for Silk-brand soymilk and knows more than a thing or two about cooking fresh. Akasha's menu is new American, with a focus on comfort foods prepared with sustainable ingredients and free-range meats. The bar features fresh juice cocktails made with organic premium spirits as well as beer and wine. A bakery—that is open all day—features fair-trade coffee and sugar. When she built the restaurant--which is located in Culver City's first hospital, the historic Hull building--Akasha was obsessively eco-conscious. Limestone counter tops, reclaimed barn wood, organ hemp banquette covers, recycled ceiling insulation, LED lights and biodegradable cleaning materials all make an appearance.
