Write Aid

"Desperately Needing Writers"

Jeff-Eisen's Rating

The show that was intended to assist writers on strike clearly needed the writers to assist with the show. Although, Eddie Izzard seemed to have some of the pulse of the crowd. His humor could not sustain the entire show.
Sarah Silverman, with her yellow note paper, fell short of her usual funny self. As she continuously looked at her notes, it was clear that her material needed more work. She finally resigned herself to 5 minutes of humping the mike stand, and an ending that fell flat.
Patton Oswalt did have many moments of glory. His personal stories of Hollywood, movies, and scripts were very clever to tie into the meaning of the cause. Tenacious D (Jack Black & Kyle Gass) raised the energy level with their music. But, it was comedy that people came to see.
Lewis Black was scheduled to appear, which may have turned the show around. Unfortunately, Andy Dick, with his “penis” type humor showed up very flaccid.
All in all, it was a very long night, with the hope (more now) that we will have a resolution to the writers strike.
