Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
It's Cinco de Mayo in Los Angeles and there are plenty of ways to celebrate.
Celebrate Mexico's victory over French forces in Puebla, Mexico in 1862 on L.A.'s historic cultural street with popular and traditional music, cultural presentations, festival, dance, food, and live entertainment. Various bands representing the regional musical styles of Mexico will perform throughout the weekend celebration, bringing an eclectic mix of Latin jazz, R & B, and traditional Mexican sounds.
Mission San Juan Capistrano hosts the fourth annual "Battle of the Mariachis," a no-holds-barred music competition that pits mariachi against mariachi for cash prizes and future performances. Each mariachi will be given a 15 minute time slot to perform for a panel of judges composed of prominent community and business leaders. Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase Mexican food and visit mariachi-themed vendors.
