OC Art Places I Like
They put on the best shows in Orange County, period. GCAC has a knack for being ahead of the curve. They showed Mark Ryden and Camille Rose Garcia way back in the day. Their 1st Saturday of each month art walk brings out a great crowd to the historic artist arts district in Santa Ana. Check it out.
Great shows, they always take a risk. I love their Thurs night music series, a great way to connect with community. And they brought the Beautiful Losers show to Orange County! Kudos to Dennis Szakacs.
In a town where crummy galleries are the norm, the Peter Blake Gallery is a breath of fresh air. Thank you, Peter!
Will Pennartz has crafted the definitive “surf” gallery. With its mixture of photography and paintings, the vintage and contemporary pieces shown in the gallery are a great way to gauge the power of surfing and the ocean.
Karen McCollum has been showing great plein air painters in her eponymous gallery in Laguna Beach forever. The gallery for beautiful landscapes by Caroline Zimmerman, Pat Tobin and Michael Logan.
The gallery for the surf industry crowd. Hey, they need a gallery too!
Who else would show Shag? And a Rick Griffin retrospective? Cool.
The Noguchi Sculpture Garden, located between 2 high rise buildings in the South Coast Metro area is a site specific installation by Isamu Noguchi. Who knew?? GREAT move by the Segerstrom Family. Random sidebar note: I got married there a million years ago!
