Baja Sharkeez
"Sharkeez attacks..."
Liam Gowing's Rating
Put simply, Baja Sharkeez is El Porto's party central, a fraternity-and-sorority-friendly institution for young singles who like to wash down their fish tacos with lots and lots of alcohol. Like any alcoholic institution, Sharkeez has a signature drink, the "Shark Attack"--a blend of mai-tai and margarita mixes, a variety of liquors and a dash of pure evil--otherwise known as Bacardi 151. It's served in a bucket, which comes in handy: As soon as you're finished with it, you have the perfect-sized receptacle to vomit in. In truth, the Shark Attack is a group drink; waiters require three participants before they will serve it, and its popularity underscores that Baja Sharkeez is a social hotspot where groups of friends come to enjoy the $1.49-to-$2.49 happy hour menu, the surprisingly decent Mexican food and the two-for-one drinks. Sharkeez isn't just for drink-pounding 21-year-olds, however: Sunday night is family night, which means kids eat free from 5 to 8 p.m., while clowns and face-painters roam the festively decorated dining room.
