L.A.'s best happy hours
Remember, just because the drinks are cheap, doesn't mean you need to sample them all. Evenutally you're gonna need to drive home.
Believe it or not, this hipster haven was a burial ground for ethnic diversity during its 1990s Rampart cop bar incarnation. We can imagine a policeman enjoying the 1.50 PBR's on tap during happy hour, but perhaps not the Pavement on the jukebox.
Barney's Beanery is the wooden shanty on Santa Monica Blvd. with a fabled rock-and-roll past. Now, it's a sports bar of sorts with some of the best happy hour deals in town (for both food items and drinks). And the eye candy ain't bad either.
Named for its location on the corner of Seventh Street and Grand Avenue, this swanky joint takes the taxidermy-as-décor theme to a new level. Happy hour here is best witnessed on a Monday, when happy hour goes all night and top-shelf whiskey will only set you back a five spot..
With all drinks two for one, it's easy to see why this place is always packed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays. We're guessing that on any given night more Corona beer is sold here than in all of the state of Delaware.
Santa Monica’s Ye Olde King’s Head is so authentically British it may as well be in Brighton. And although the English are generally not familiar with what we Americans call "happy," they do understand the genius of afternoon beers on the cheap. Get your Guiness between 4 and 7 p.m. and crack a smile...you're in L.A. now, mate.
From atop the swank new hotel Angeleno, you can laugh at those stuck in traffic on the 405 while you drink 1/2 price drinks (and not just the cheap stuff, either) from 4-7 p.m. daily. "Rush Hour Relief," they call it. Amen to that.
