Stephen Root's best of L.A.

Know something we don't?
If the mere thought of a tie makes you gag then stay far away from McCormick & Schmick's, the after-work gathering place for yuppies of all ages. The place bills itself as a seafood restaurant, and the dinnertime seafood entrées are often excellent, but the real action happens at happy hour. Food at starving-artist prices draws hordes of hungry people, all there for the $1.95 menu, which includes cheeseburgers, fried calamari and jalapeño poppers.
