These courses are located inside Griffith Park, a 3,200-acre public park near the Hollywood Hills. This puts them near Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Zoo and Griffith Observatory.
The Wilson Course was built by Tom Bendelow in 1914. William H. Johnson designed the Harding Course, which opened in 1933. Johnson later renovated both in 1948.
The Wilson Course is somewhat tighter with smaller greens than the Harding Course. The Harding Course presents outstanding views of the nearby mountains. Trees line the fairways, and water is located on several holes. Although it's shorter than Wilson, Harding demands more accuracy.
One problem here: Seven holes run alongside a freeway on the Harding Course, creating lots of noise and exhaust fumes. Even with that, these courses are a good deal for under $20 during the week. -- Dan Arritt
