About
Architecturally, the 2,200-seat Wiltern LG probably ranks at the top of the list of Los Angeles' pop music venues. Built in 1931, the formermovie theater re-opened in 1985 and oozes art deco history and character. One of the best vantage points in the house is the middle of the first row in the large balcony section, which hangs over about half of the lower seating area. The Wiltern's offering of pop and rock acts does slow down a bit during the summer when many performers head to the outdoor venues, but it's often the last stop before rising rock bands take the leap into arenas and relatively still affordable for the experience. Booze is, as always for this sort of place, mad expensive, so try Frank N Hank's or the HMS Bounty afterwards, or any of the bevy of Korean and Vietnamese noodle houses nearby for late-hour satiation. Street parking's impossible on show nights, just pay for the lot behind the Denny's.
