Though its Mississippi Delta by way of Disneyland approach to decorating may be a bit much to take, the celebrity owners of this chain of restaurants and live-music venues can certainly be proud of their concert calendar. It's a popular waystation on the tween-emo circuit, and classic rock revivalists and mainstream hip-hop heads will likely spend serious time here. They run a tight ship -- if the time on the ticket says 8 p.m., the first band will take the stage not long after, a somewhat unusual policy for an L.A. club. The almost requistie valet parking may be steep (it is the Sunset Strip, after all), but considering that this has become the room of choice for up-and-coming and established performers of all genres, it's a small price to pay. Sop up the overpriced booze at El Compadre and be glad you escaped with your life from marauding packs of post-fratties.
