The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) now offers a casually elegant cafe from one of America's great chefs to complement its growing collection of masterpieces.
Pentimento is a venture of superchef Joachim Splichal, who is among the nation's most prolific restaurateurs (in addition to his flagship Patina, he oversees a half-dozen Pinot restaurants in Southern California and Las Vegas, a coming-soon downtown steakhouse and Patinette at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Pentimento occupies the site of the former Museum Gift Shop, overlooking the Times Mirror Central Court. It offers full table service in the dining room as well as al fresco on the Central Court terrace. The contemporary cherry wood-clad interior has blue granite counters and tabletops, with dramatic stainless steel accents. Casual dining in a creative environment is the theme here, and a full bar and select wine list are offered.
Appetizers from the lighter-side menu include roasted garlic hummus with croutons, a tower of smoked salmon, and wonderful soups. Among the intriguing entree salads you'll find a spirited Caesar, classic Cobb, and Asian-style seared ahi tuna. The dessert offerings include a trio of créme brûlées (chocolate, vanilla and pistachio), chocolate-coated walnut bar, and fruit ratatouille with a peppermint-berry salad.
