IN the mood to swan through a chic, new sushi restaurant and unburden yourself of a good chunk of change? But, here's the hitch, you're...

Times Description

This chic white and chrome restaurant was conceived by former uber-agent Michael Ovitz to showcase Hiro Fujita's fusion sushi cuisine. In a district crowded with big-name designer flagships (Diane von Furstenberg, Nanette Lapore, and the soon-to-open Alexander McQueen), it makes sense that design is part of Kumo’s calling card. By day it’s like dining in a cloud (“kumo” in fact means cloud in Japanese); by night, the amber light that bathes the room makes you feel like you’re floating in a champagne bubble. Either way, the effect transports you to a place of levity. So do the signature cocktails made with freshly squeezed juices, such as the black margarita (shaken with black vinegar) and the “kumokaze.” Dishes are served tapas style; highlights include marinated black cod, Wagyu kobe, octopus ceviche, and Maine lobster tail. Creative rolls like the lobster/crab dynamite and the “pink panther” are wrapped with soy paper. With art from Ovitz’s personal collection gracing the walls and an installation of Chiho Aoshima’s short film “City Glow” playing behind the sushi bar, this is museum-worthy dining.

TIPS: Seasonal unpasteurized sakes are available for a short time in spring.

Let me just say that this place is a bit over priced for the quality of sushi. I wasn't really impressed with any of the signature rolls. Had the pink...
