Know something we don't?
There are bars where you go to drink and bars where you go to meet people; the Venice Whaler is both. Located in “The Square” at the end of Washington Boulevard, the Whaler gets crowded early and rowdy late, particularly on warm days. The downstairs bar features a massive television continually tuned to sports along with passionate karaoke on Thursday and Sunday nights. Upstairs, a big, open-air patio overlooking the beach lets you enjoy the sun and the sunset. The menu is typical pub grub—burgers, nachos, pizza—but a huge, baseball-cut sirloin paired with a creamy mushroom sauce ($19) is surprisingly delicious. The crowd, a mixture of locals and tourists, is very friendly and most nights you will invariably end up having a long conversation with a complete stranger. Parking at the Whaler is a snap—the biggest lot in Venice is right next door and is cheap at night ($4).
