With two outdoor patios holding some 25 tables, the Baja Cantina is Marina Del Rey’s destination bar on warm weekend afternoons. Obviously, margaritas are the order of the day here, where the veteran bartenders serve 'em up strong -- and fast. Free nachos and a very spicy salsa are available by the entrance. If you’re looking for something more substantial, the lunch and dinner menus are filled with traditional Mexican dishes tweaked with a few nouvelle touches. A generous selection of seafood is also available; on Tuesday nights the Baja features a lobster special.
The crowd is neither local nor particularly touristy. Mostly, it’s a wide assortment of people from every neighborhood on the Westside. One important note: Considering its large size, the bathrooms here are criminally small, so plan accordingly. Though street parking is available nearby, it’s usually difficult to find spaces. Go ahead and splurge for the valet.
