L.A.'s ultimate guide to late-night dining

Know something we don't?
This is your prototypical American diner, which is to say not retro-themed but the real deal, complete with bad lighting, a dine-at counter and cops in the booths. The food isn’t spectacular – most of it seems fresh out of a box – but House of Pies has a huge menu, average prices and quick service. The young, restless and/or nocturnal especially appreciate that when they stumble in starving at 2 a.m., as it’s a popular post-bar spot. The breakfast items, served all day, every day, get high marks, and the outdoor patio area is popular on weekend mornings. As for the pies, well, there are a lot of them: strawberry cream cheese, egg custard, pumpkin cream, Bavarian chocolate – you get the idea. And lest you think House of Pies is a relic of another era, think again: It has a MySpace page.
