Know something we don't?
On a beautiful, sunny L.A. day, there is nothing quite as relaxing as a leisurely lunch at the Alcove, Los Feliz’s quaint and eminently trendy cafe. Housed in a historic bungalow with an ample courtyard seating area, Alcove has a big following of fans who appreciate its tasty salads, sandwiches and large and inviting dessert display. (The various layer cakes, tarts, pies, brownies and cookies are not for the weak-willed.) True, at about $12 an entrée, it is expensive for having to order at a counter, but the cozy setting and attention to detail more than makes up for it (fresh ingredients, hand-roasted coffee, pastries by artisan bakers). With such popularity, be prepared for a long wait, especially on the weekends, but you can always browse in the Village Gourmet, the little attached shop that features cheeses and other take-out fare.
