Suzanne Tracht of Tracht's in Long Beach (at the Renaissance Hotel) offers an incentive to come dine on a quieter night: From 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday there's a three-course tasting menu for $30. To sweeten the deal, bottles of wine are 25% off and valet parking is complimentary. Sit on the stylish patio. You can't quite see the water, but you can feel the marine breeze.

    Why there are not more restaurants like this in Long Beach amazes me. I really wish they would use heated caramel on the butterscotch pudding though.
