Know something we don't?
When Cole Porter penned those suave lyrics of yesteryear, he might well have had The Sky Room in mind. After all, the elegant tunesmith is reported to have been in frequent attendance at the supper club during its original heyday. And the slick, exquisitely original (1926) real parquet dance floor at this regal eagle's nest still gives Cafe Society a place to carry on.
Owner Bernard Rosenson has restored this landmark room to its original glory, and then some. The customers are as enthusiastic about dancing to "Happy Birthday" as they are to "In the Mood" or "Begin the Beguine." Elizabeth Taylor spent one of her many honeymoons here, but she was way too early for the New American cuisine (oven-roasted shitake mushrooms; pepper-crusted ahi tuna; prime côte de boeuf; paella) executive chef Juan Carlos cooks up these days.
