Know something we don't?
Bagelmania Coffehouse was born from a cliché, the one about necessity being the mother’s milk of invention. Christina Glasgow opened the cafe in 1992 because she got tired of driving miles from Huntington Beach to get a good bagel and then stopping somewhere else for quality Italian coffee. Today, locals flock to the cafe and drive-through for breakfast, lunch, a snack, gourmet coffee, a smoothie, juice and more. Its version of the everything bagel is called the Mania and it’s made with onion, garlic and poppy seeds. Where other bagel shops just put the flavors on top, Bagelmania bakes the tasty stuff right in. The cafe follows the New York preparation technique, boiling the dough before baking to give the tell-tale shiny coat and chewy taste of an authentic bagel. This being the Wild West, though, experimental fusion flavors abound. Case in point: the Mexican specialty bagel with jalapeño peppers and cheese. Seasonally speaking, summer is a good time to try the Hawaiian, a coconut and pineapple creation that can be topped with a matching Hawaiian cream cheese. If you’re stopping to get some bagels to go, you can bring home hearty Italian fare from neighboring Lucci’s Deli. Have a drink, appetizer, seafood or even a steak at Zubies Dry Dock. Catch some karaoke at Li’s Chinese Restaurant or Don José’s Mexican Restaurant. Drive just a bit more for Flight Bistro and Social Lounge, a classy new nightspot.
Tips: The only tables here are outdoors in an enclosed seating area that’s essentially in the middle of a parking lot. Either focus on your food and disregard the surroundings or get your order to go. Heck, it’s not that far to the beach.
