Ever since Al Wazir Chicken got a hold of the secret garlic-lard recipe that Zankou Chicken was hoping to rule Los Angeles with, the two fowl superpowers have been deadlocked in the rankings.
Their menus are nearly identical: Spicy rotisserie chicken with pickled veggies, rice, pita bread and hummus for $5 or so. They both have all manner of kebabs, pita sandwiches, and a fiber-dense vegetarian plate with salad, eggplant, hummus, grape leaves and pickled turnips.
If you're looking for swank digs, stay away from both places -- tables and chairs are the only décor. Romantic? Elegant? Suave? None of the above -- but good, cheap grub is the mainstay. -- John Pecorelli
