Know something we don't?
The recently renovated Fonda's in a tough spot: too large for buzzed-about new acts but a bit too small for established theater draws. So while they get some fairly soild bookings of left-field rock, metal and electro, concerts often feel underattended and the sound is notoriously iffy. Booze costs an arm and a leg to boot, and parking is as bad as the rest of Hollywood Blvd. But the upstairs smoking patio is chic as all getout, and even the main room drips vintage Hollywood atmosphere. Take the Red Line to Hollywood/Vine if you can, so you can enjoy the ghost of F. Scott Fitzgerald at the Frolic Room or scads of agency-types at the Well over cocktails, and sop up the booze with late-night Thai noodles at Sanamluang down the street.
