Al-Watan Halal Restaurant

Though it looks like a dump from the outside, Al-Watan is legendary among SoCal foodies for its outstanding Pakistani cuisine. They roast their own meat, stew their own lamb and bake their own naan. In fact, just about everything is cooked fresh to order (aside from certain dishes that need time to marinate or stew). The small neon sign along this nondescript stretch of Inglewod Blvd. belies the mirrored, almost elegant interior. And of course, everything is halal. Their chicken, lamb and beef skewers are delicious and their tandoori selection is impressive. Recommended: the keema naan, a fluffy, chewy round of dough stuffed with ground beef, onions and spices (you can really taste the cumin!).
