Best Doughnuts in L.A.

Know something we don't?
Among the celebrity fans of this modest 35-year-old shop was Elvis, who used to send his bodyguard to purchase jelly doughnuts. But Donut Man is famous for its seasonal strawberry doughnut. Offered from February through the fall, it features probably half a basket of strawberries coated in pie glaze and heaped into a plain raised doughnut that's been sliced open. What most people don't know is that for a few weeks each summer, owner Jim Nakano also makes a peach version of this doughnut. He usually begins in late July, an if the peach harvest is good year, he'll keep making peach doughnuts through Labor Day. In a bad year, the peach doughnut season lasts barely a month.
Another seasonal item is the pumpkin and cream cheese number that shows up around Thanksgiving. Year-round favorites include the tiger tail, a classic twist ribboned with chocolate; and the standard cake doughnuts, which are smaller and more delicately flavored than most cake doughnuts.

I'm so glad to see Donut Man still around and at the top of the list. I haven't had the pleasure for many years, but I used to enjoy them regularly as a 20-something college student. I consider them a So Cal midnight-run classic like Tommy's Burgers and In-N-Out both...
These fruit filled donuts are amazing. My wife and I saw a story on the Donut Man 10 years ago on PBS and we had to try them. We have gone there ever since! They are not overly sweet and are awesome with some ice cold milk. Just finished one...
I've had them all and can say with confidence, nobody beats the Donut Man. To watch Jim making donuts on just about any week night is worth a trip. The dough is light and fluffy, never gummy. It has a subtle chewy tecture and a classic aroma. Your mouth is...

I got a donut that was topped with pumpkin frostings and dotted with cream cheese frosting. My first bite was unfrosted, and I was able to get a good taste...

So I guess this place is supposed to be the Mt. Olympus of donut shops. I got the tiger tail, which was delicious. Sweet, but not insanely sweet, and also...
