Disney's original theme park features a variety of rides, attractions and shows in eight themed lands. Highlights include the Indiana Jones Adventure, Splash Mountain and the classic dark ride Pirates of the Caribbean. Junior thrill seekers should try the Matterhorn and Gadget's Go-Coaster. For evening entertainment, "Believe ... There's Magic in the Stars," an aerial fireworks show, is performed during the summer and selected weekends.

Crowds can be tough during the summer months and on weekends throughout the year. Arrive early, and be sure to get "Fastpasses," Disney's name for ride reservation times, for the more popular attractions.

If you're still thirsting for family fun after Disneyland, check out one of the other stellar theme parks that can be found in our fair city -- or near it. The Los Angeles area is peppered with great theme parks, which in turn swell with exciting rides, shows and attractions. Don't forget about folksey Knott's Berry Farm, which has been providing family entertainment for years. Universal Studios Hollywood is always a hot attraction, filled with rides, restaurants and live peformances based on your favorite Universal films. If you want to get the ticker pounding try a visit to Six Flags Magic Mountain (there are several locations in our fair state).

Tips: According to legend, lines 3, 20 and 21 move more swiftly at the Disneyland entrance, good news for those seeking to maximize their time at the theme park.
