Times Description

Meryl Friedman's witty, freewheeling vaudevillean update gleefully guts the text to recapture the irreverent spirit of Aristophanes' classic comedy, more closely aligned with modern slapstick than heavily-footnoted academia.

This play was such a treat. It had the vaudevillian slapstick of yesteryear wrapped up in a clever contemporary farce, with a plot derived from a Greek tragedy. When's the last time you saw that? And man can these guys perform! If you're looking for something different, you've found it.

This play has that classic feel of a Guys and Dolls, granted without the dolls sort of feel. Every aspect, from costume to music to performance has Broadway in mind. Everyone involved are obviously professionals who understand the art of entertainment and it shows, from slap-stick start to toe-tapping end....

    "Bringin' the funny"

"The Wasps" brings the funny. Big time. Just what we all need in these trying times: to laugh unabashedly until our sides ache. Be prepared for non-stop action, music, dance and all-around silliness. Best show I've seen in a long time. Very entertaining.

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. . .and, yes, couldnt' stop laughing . . a totally unexpected production. . .brilliant acting, gags a minute, telling this ancient Greek story with humor, fun, up-beat music with the genius of David O, and the simple joy of just plain fun at...

When you take your seat at the Lost Studio Theatre on La Brea to see "The Wasps"--and you WILL see "The Wasps"-- make sure you fasten your seat belt tightly. This whiz-bang show is a non-stop, fast-paced, frenetically funny cross between The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers and old time...

Yes, the previous reviews said it and fun is the right word! There are some wonderful performances, many deep laughs, great songs (with fabulous lyrics), wonderful ensemble playing. We had a great time.

Full disclosure: I'm friends with some of the talents involved. Nevertheless, supporting their work was a total pleasure. This is a really fun show, with a true ensemble bringing insane energy and loads of charming, clever musical numbers. Smart and funny and all that. Go.

Aristophanes play re-imagined into about 90 minutes of fast-paced gags and great performances. Very funny. You will thoroughly enjoy yourself.
