About
Dating back to ancient Greece, where it was served to Olympic athletes in 776 B.C., America's favorite dessert gets its due on National Cheesecake Day. Celebrated on July 30, this dubious holiday honors the dense, caloric, cholesterol-rich dessert. Versions of cheesecake exist in numerous cultures and date back hundreds of years, but it wasn't until 1872, when dairyman William Lawrence of Chester of New York invented cream cheese, that the dessert took its modern form and took off in popularity.
