Laguna Canyon Winery

Unassumingly tucked between a car repair shop and a warehouse in an industrial-looking strip mall off windy Laguna Canyon Road is Laguna Canyon Winery, Orange County’s only public winery. It’s here that Canadian transplant Marlowe Huber and his brother Darren share their love of the vine with the help of a few wine-obsessed experts including French wine clerk Sebastian Noel and Italian sommelier Gianni Seminari. The winery itself resembles a makeshift warehouse with barrels and corking and bottling machines lining the walls. The grand tasting room prominently displays all 22 of their locally produced wines which are crushed, pressed, aged and bottled on the premises. Bestsellers include the Monterey Chardonnay and Sonoma Shiraz as well as special vintages like the Limited Edition Wyland Red Dolfino that was created in partnership with local artist, Robert Wyland (whose studio is just across the way). Their monthly wine tastings and winemaker dinners draw a sophisticated crowd, but don't get it wrong – a good Sangiovese can still be appreciated whether you're dressed in Bermudas or slacks. Tastings are held on the first Friday of every month from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. No reservations necessary but arrive early to get a good seat.
