A Different Light Bookstore

Conveniently located in the heart of West Hollywood's Boys Town, A Different Light Bookstore has been offering queer literature in a friendly environment since 1979. With another location in San Francisco and an increasingly hearty internet trade, the store has managed to flourish amidst the industry-wide downturn that has plagued many independent bookstores. Check out the exceptional vintage Gay Classics section, featuring important works from the likes of Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, William Burroughs and James Baldwin.

Popular gay club Rage is but a few steps away, if you're seeking less cerebral entertainment. Eleven Restaurant offers a fairly tame lunchtime scene but ramps up to a wilder, club-going scene at night. The best low-key eatery in the vicinity may be Fiesta Cantina, with a great 2-for-1 happy hour on weekdays and a street-facing patio that's ideal for people-watching.

Parking: Except for peak hours (Thu. - Sat. nights and weekend brunch), you can generally find street parking. But this is West Hollywood, so it's ridiculously expensive. Bring change!
