Now that the annual Nisei Week celebration no longer includes a tofu festival, hungry patrons might consider the Gyoza Eating Championship. Top competitive eaters including Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti (ranked #2 by the IFOCE) and Rich "The Locust" LeFevre will try to break the world record set by Joey "The Jaws" Chestnut at Nisei Week in 2006: 212 dumplings in 10 minutes. The 9-day festival, which culminates this weekend, also includes a taiko gathering (Aug. 24), cultural exhibits and traditional celebrations. Aug. 23-24. Various venues in and around Little Tokyo.
