Best Spots for a Girls Night Out

Since “Sex and the City” is practically “Star Wars” for women, gals to showed up in droves to see its film debut last year. With a sequel in the works slip on your Manolos and hit up these female-friendly L.A. spots for some cosmopolitans and maybe even a Mr. Big of your own.

1. Beauty Bar   Hollywood

The beauty salon-inspired bar lives up to its name by offering manicurists and henna tattoo artists every Thursday to Saturday evening. For $10, you have the choice of either service along with your choice of martini. I recommend downing the martini before manicure so you don’t have a drink taunting you as your nails dry.

2. Lola's   West Hollywood

Carrie Bradshaw might not have stuck with cosmos if she discovered Lola’s extensive menu of martinis. Over 50 flavors come in classic (apple or dirty) to downright strange (pickle and garlic mashed potato). All are served strong so it’s best not to wear the 5-inch heels when you visit.

3. Bar on 4 at Neiman Marcus   Beverly Hills

This bar smack dab in the middle of the men’s department at Neimans was clearly conceived by a woman. Nibble on Petrossian caviar and sip on the bar’s 10 specialty martinis while you scope out hotties trying on Armani.

4. Ultra Suede   West Hollywood

If you think there is no such place where women can have fun without being pestered by cheesy men but still be surrounded by handsome gents, think again. Okay, so it’s a gay club, but the eye candy is guaranteed and the closest thing to harassment you’ll get will be about where you get your hair done.

Club Cherry
5. Purple Lounge at the Standard Hotel   West Hollywood

Carrie and the girls stayed at The Standard when they visited L.A. in SATC’s Season 3. While the pool can be a little crowded during the summer, the Purple Lounge hosts the dance party Mad Mondays every other week. Along with the free vodka before 11 p.m., the night also occasionally includes free manicures and makeovers.

6. Saddle Ranch Chop House   West Hollywood

“Sex and the City” also paid a visit to this Sunset Strip stand-by. Though it’s now usually frequented by tourists and fratty meatheads, there’s still something very liberating about getting on that mechanical bull and riding your heart out.

7. Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre   Hollywood

Who says women aren’t funny? If you and your girls are looking for laughs, try checking out shows by UCB’s female headliners like Jennie Pierson and Amanda Sitko’s “Amanda & Jennie: Best Friends” and “Vagalanties & Girls Gone Blue.”

Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre
8. Geffen Playhouse   Westwood / West L.A.

On select Thursday nights, the theater throws a post-show party featuring free cocktails, beer and appetizers for the ladies (guys are still welcome). Be sure to mention the event when you purchase your tickets.

Geffen Playhouse
9. The Roosevelt Hotel   Hollywood

This Hollywood hotspot still packs people in with its convenient combination of hip eateries and bars. Start with a dinner at the newly opened Dakota Bridge, an extension of the steakhouse that overlooks the pool area. Then gather the girls for a poolside drink at Tropicana Bar before dancing the night away with other fabulous scenesters at Teddy’s.

10. NiteSpa   Venice

For the ladies who need more pampering than a raucous night out, this Venice spa stays open until midnight and lavishes its customers with free wine and music. You and your girlfriends can also book the entire bungalow for a private spa party.
