Rodolfo’s doesn’t trumpet its old time history the way many Olvera Street restaurants do, but it’s a good, solid, low-key place to grab a quick lunch. A covered patio to the side of the open kitchen provides colorfully painted picnic tables and benches for diners. The vibe is simple and spare, dominated by a carved Aztec calendar on the far wall. A wide picture window facing the street gives passers-by a view of the apron-wearing chef, slaving away over steaming pots and pans. The combination plates are a bargain, averaging around $5 a selection. The fare is pretty standard Mexican – tostadas, tacos, burritos and enchiladas – but it’s also lovingly prepared and quickly served. The most popular item is the special taco plate, which features a hard-shell taco, two taquitos, beans and salad.
