Times Description

In the middle of the Music Center of Los Angeles, looking like a richly frosted cake, is the Mark Taper Forum, which opened in 1967 with John Whiting's "The Devils." With 760 seats surrounding a large thrust stage, there are literally no bad seats in the facility. A comfortable but steep rake offers all the advantages of the amphitheater design, including excellent acoustics.

Along with its sister venue, the Ahmanson Theatre, the Taper is operated year-round and has its subscription seasons programmed by Center Theatre Group, a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest and most active theater companies in the nation.

The Taper underwent a major interior renovation in 2008. Read Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne's review of the renovated theater.

Read the Times report on the Taper's 2009 season, which includes revivals of the musicals
"Pippin" and "Parade" as well as new works by Octavio Solis and the comedic troupe Culture Clash.
