Know something we don't?
The old saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover” applies to downtown bars as well. Housed in a circa-1880 building, La Cita harkens back to its three-generation stint as a traditional Mexican bar with plenty of cowboy hats and Mexican flags on its facade. In its previous life, La Cita hosted couples swinging to traditional ranchero bands, but these days the dance floor holds hipsters gyrating to live DJs. Unlike other post-gentrification venues, La Cita’s new owners opted to keep the original décor, which is heavy on twisted brass metalwork, wrought-iron chandeliers and bright red tile. The well-worn wooden bar and accompanying bar stools remain intact, although the tequila selection is new-and-improved. Oh, and the ranchero music? Regulars can still swing their partner on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.
