Located on the corner of Fourth and Main, Banquette doubles as de facto community center for denizens of downtown’s bustling Gallery Row. Stop by the petite café and wine bar any time of day or night and you are virtually guaranteed a run-in with local artists and gallery owners. What’s the draw? Maybe it’s the airy space with cozy banquette seating that is reminiscent of the storied cafes of Europe. Maybe it’s the strong espressos, toasty sandwiches and rich desserts that are consistently turned out from behind the heavy marble counter. Maybe it’s the daily happy hour that features wines by the glass at half-price. Or maybe it’s just that certain je ne sais quoi.
