The iconic Westin Bonaventure now has a new bar to compete with its staid, circular center bar in the center of the hotel.  Although the official address of Suede is on Figueroa, the enterence is on the Flower St. side of the building.  Suede will surely make downtown office workers happy this summer, with a "stress-free" happy hour from 4-7 p.m. daily  (that's $4 well drinks, $4 wine, $4 drafts, and $4 appetizers).

At night, it remains to be seen if anyone outside of the hotel will pop by the Vegas-esque bar.  Suede is very small, but the womb-like design scheme is a nice touch, and a bit more upscale than other offerings in the immidiate area.

DJs will spin at the bar during happy hour and late into the night, owners say, and a small patio will surely catch the eyes of many on busy Flower St. during the evening rush hour mad-dash to leave downtown.

The reason to stay and wait out rush hour?  How about a varied selection of premium cognacs, a small plates menu (cheese plate with figs and fresh Honeycomb is one option) and even a few fine cigars for sale on site.  And while Suede's ground floor status can't compete with the view atop the Bonaventure inside their revolving restaurant, the ambience and hip, international staff more than makes up for the street-level location.
