L.A. bars with literary aspirations

Know something we don't?
Located on the ground floor of the Library Court Lofts, the Library Bar is a haven of good beer amidst faux-literary styling. With the exception of a long wooden bar and accompanying leather barstools, the Library Bar’s main room resembles its namesake with shelves of colorful books and a look-alike fireplacethat holds candles rather than hot embers. The bar caters to the Financial District crowd, but expect a healthy contingent of USC students too. The menu offers wine and cocktails, but beer is definitely the thing to order here. Typically, there are a handful of beers on tap -- all of them artisan -- as well as many hard-to-find imported varieties available by the bottle. Look for everything from Pasadena’s Craftsman Brewing Company’s popular 1903 Prohibition Lager to the delicious Chimay Grande Réserve (Chimay Blue) from Belgium. Library bar now also has a bona fide kitchen. The small but savory menu features burgers, the perennial bar food, and slightly more refined options, including devilled marrowbones and grilled artichoke with lemon garlic confit.
