Avalon Bar

Singles Edgy, Offbeat Moderately noisy 21+

O.C's upscale version of a nameless, knock-on-the-door-and-say-the-right-password speakeasy, Avalon, is hidden and difficult to find online.  It's also small and dimly lit; with red hues inside. None of these factors seem to inhibit the Costa Mesa bar, however, as Avalon seems to be the hot place for those welcoming a change from from the OC's numerous beach bars and bourgeois nightclubs.  Indie and electro DJs frequently spin to the tastemaker crowd here.  Drinks, while limited, are cheap, so no one goes home unhappy.

Update: Avalon's owner, Michael Conley, was found dead in Chicago in late Feb.  The Guide will keep you updated how this will affect the bar.
