Best Valentine's Day parties in L.A.
We know, Valentine's Day is a dreadful holiday dreamed up by marketing executives at Hallmark to make those not in a relationship suffer. That said, "V-Day" falls on a Saturday this year, so staying home and watching HBO is simply not an option (most cable networks will have romantic comedies aplenty airing Feb. 14).
So what's the solution? Get out there and show your married friends what they are missing. There are several Valentine's Day-related events taking place this year geared towards singles or those on a date, and we've even thrown in a few choice spots for those who want nothing to do with the entire concept of Valentine's Day this year (just good bars that will not make you feel lame because it happens to be Feb. 14). Either way, we say get out there and mix it up.
We will be updating this list right up until Valentine's Day. If you are looking for less event-centric places to seduce a loved one, check out our guide to SoCal's most romantic bars here. Or, for events not taking place in bars, try this list of alternative Valentine's Day happenings.

This hotel, a Hollywood institution since the film industry's Golden Age, makes a fantastic date spot. Feb. 14th, as the historic landmark will feature Phoenix-based contemporary Latin band Rakata performing for free in the lobby. For those seeking a bit of grown-up sophistication this V-day, plot your escape to the L'Ermitage's Writer's Bar, which just might be the perfect romantic prelude to a kiss. Order up the smoked cherry cake (black pepper sauce and espresso mousse) and champagne for him, or her, and you're golden.
Sutra is feeling jazzy this Valentine's Day. Your date will as well after hearing tunes by the Evan Stone Trio. A four-course meal, a glass of champagne, entrance into the nightclub for dancing and a complimentary CD is just $50 per person. The love begins at 6 p.m. and goes until 2 a.m. in the nightclub (DJ Echo spins later as the scene morphs into a 944 magazine-sponsored singles-friendly situation after 10 p.m.).
