Where to watch election night coverage in L.A.
Didn't get that invite to Larry David or Dennis Miller's election-night house party? Us either. Luckily, there are many viewing parties at local bars, hotels and even gallery spaces if you'd rather not be alone in your living room Tuesday night with only Wolf Blitzer, Brit Hume and Chris Matthews. Here is a list of just a few spots in SoCal where you can watch the returns roll in all night. Holding an election night party at a bar or restaurant you want added here? This popular Franklin Avenue restaurant/bar has had lively debate-viewing parties this fall, and will likely be packed with Obama supporters Tuesday night. Happy hour specials from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Bring in your voting stub and you'll receive a free appetizer or house beer.
Hollywood Billiards' impressive number of big-screen and plasma televisions (around 30) means that both Democrats and Republicans will have their favorite channels represented. Watch multiple networks at once Tuesday as this sports bar becomes the real "situation room." 50% off an appetizer of your choice with an "I Voted" sticker.
The Abbey's Election Day and Proposition 8 decision celebration opens at 9 a.m. (yes, a.m., people). The spacious bar will host an Uncle Sam impersonator, and as the evening wears on, drink specials will be announced with every Blue State win. No cover.

Causecast premieres its series of "Cause on the Rocks" events at the Edison. Dance to a DJ set by Kid Lighting, and wear your "I Voted" sticker for a free drink. The swanky downtown nightspot still insists on upscale casual attire, but will make a one-time exception for TOMS shoe-wearing patrons Tuesday, so yes you can wear sneakers. $5 suggested donation. 8 p.m.-2 a.m.
Perhaps the biggest party in town Tuesday will be at the official California for Obama bash at the Hyatt. Senator Barbara Boxer, Eric Garcetti and even Peter Fonda will be here, and the event is open to the public. No cover and the action begins at 8:01 p.m. (DJ Z-Trip and others spin). Big crowds and fancy hotels not your thing? Consider the dive-y, but charming R Bar, where you are guaranteed a good view of the television. The Koreatown bar hosts a modest viewing party Tuesday night from 7 p.m. onward.
IM Radio takes over the Echo with guest speakers, free t-shirt silk screening (BYOT), artwork creation by Echo Curio, and a live performance by the Polyamorous Affair. The L.A. Obama Campaign Call Bank will be at the club reminding people to vote, and patrons are welcome to join in. Full bar and giveaways (buttons, t-shirts, CDs) all night long. No cover, but a donation to IM Radio is optional. 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Join over 100 artists from 16 countries who are staging their own election night spectacle at this modest Temple Street bar. Artists such as Karen Atkinson and Zackary Drucker will be exhibiting new works as live election coverage streams in via television. The party with performances, projections and food goes until late into the evening. $5 suggested donation.
If you are wearing you "I voted" sticker Tuesday at the Melting Pot, expect $11 fondues. McCain supporters will be drinking red, white & blue cocktails (such as their raspberry martini) which are priced to move at $7 a pop in the bar area.
A good pub is always a safe bet to watch the election unfold. This Long Beach favorite is offering up their "half & half" (Harp & Guinness) for Obama/Biden and their "Moose Juice" (Moose Drool beer mixed with Cider) for McCain/Palin. Looking for a bash not packed with Obama supporters? Find like-minded voters at the California Republican Party's official party at Irvine's Hyatt hotel Tuesday. Expect a lavish buffet and cash bar. Free admission from 8:30 p.m. until midnight.
Looking for a English or European perspective on our political process? Try this pub where expats gather for British pub grub like fish and chips while watching football (not the American kind) on the telly. Tuesday they will have an election party with specials.
Comedy Death Ray's Election Night Special is hosted all night by Human Giant's Paul Scheer and will roll out comedians such as the Sklar Brothers, Paul Gilmartin, Jimmy Dore, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman and Jon Daly. Live TV updates all night and the funny won't stop until results are final. $5
Come "out" to the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's bash at the Henry Fonda Music Box where there will be eight big-screen TVs, drinks, appetizers, and prize giveaways throughout the evening. Music will be provided by DJ Steve Cunningham, and live updates by political and community leaders about election and Prop 8 results. A $10 donation to the center is suggested, as is RSVPing at www.lagaycenter.org. 6 p.m.to midnight.
Left-leaning group Drinking Liberally, who host a usual Tuesday evening affair, gather to monitor the election coverage with merlot in hand this week (they have had lots of practice). Drawings will be held throughout the evening in the banquet room for a variety of door prizes from Drinking Liberally headquarters
Enjoy discounted drinks ($8 election-themed cocktails such as their "McCainade") from noon onwards at this swank poolside restaurant and bar. Watch coverage on Blue on Blue's 42-inch plasma TV and take a celebratory dip in the Avalon Beverly Hills hotel pool if your Presidential pick wins.
This La Brea Ave. favorite will hold an "election night lock in" Tuesday. Drink specials with your "I voted" sticker and Campanile will stay open "as long as it takes" Tuesday, per a press release. Five big screen televisions will be tuned to multiple networks so you won't miss a second of the action.
Want to snack on something other than burgers and fries Tuesday? Wolfgang will be bringing television sets into Spago so patrons can watch the big race while they enjoy dinner.
Wear you "I voted" sticker at this country-style restaurant inside the Farmer's Daughter hotel and you'll receive a free dessert.
