Know something we don't?
If The Godfather were reset in sunny Southern California, this is where the guys would do lunch. They’d park in one of the dark red booths and order chopped salads, which have been drawing raves since the restaurant’s debut in 1956. In fact, this salad, a filling affair made with garbanzo beans and liberal amounts of flavorful Italian salami and mozzarella cheese, is considered by many to be L.A.’s definitive chopped. But if you’re not a leafy type, consider the many pastas (the Bolognese is quite nice), the shrimp scampi or the veal Milanese. In the same vein as La Dolce Vita or Dan Tana’s, multitudes of celebrities have passed through these doors and languished on the lovely sidewalk patio, and it’s considered a scene-y neighborhood spot – if your idea of star power leans toward Larry King and Jackie Collins. In recent years, a younger generation a la Lohan and Hilton have discovered the place anew, but the crowd is still more Angie Dickinson than Angie Jolie.
TIPS: It’s not on the menu, but you can order the non-chopped version of their signature salad. They don’t do changes and substitutions, and you’ll be charged for every request. The parking structure across the street only charges $2 after 6 p.m.
