Cedd Moses' (the downtown denizen behind the Broadway Bar, Seven Grand etc.) members-only club The Doheny is sure to divide Los Angeles into two camps in 2008: those who love it, and those who loathe it (mostly because they aren't members).
Reasons to sing the bar's praises, include a trio of world class barmen (including Vincenzo Marianella), 75 house cocktails (many with fresh hand-squeezed juices), toffee-colored seating options (nail headed booths reminiscent of the 1920s), a smoking area in an actual greenhouse (with a gaslit fireplace inside the greenhouse), and unrivaled service and schmoozing with Los Angeles' top power brokers, art stars and the occasional celeb (you will never see Paris or her ilk here, however).
Reasons not to be down with The Doheny? How about a $2200+ annual fee...and that's on top of a one time initiation fee of $2750. Would be Doheny crashers who scoff at the idea of paying a hefty annual fee should consider themselves warned; it's not easy to sneak into the bar. There will be no name-dropping or talking your way in at this swank by application only destination, which debuted in March near Staples Center (near Figerora at Olympric).
