Dramatic, slick, and bold describe both the décor and the clientele at the Latin-themed Rumba Room. With a strictly enforced dress code, the club attracts an upscale crowd decked out in designer duds to its two bars and dance floors on two levels. Downstairs, patrons lounge in garnet-draped VIP areas with garnet walls; upstairs, couples curl into the curvy coves of cream-colored couches. On the dance floors, DJs spin hip-quaking Latin grooves including bachata, merengue, and of course rumba; on Sundays, live salsa bands bring out some of the city’s most passionate salseros. Expert and novice dancers vie for floor space. Don’t come hungry: food is served Friday and Saturday nights only, and the offerings of quesadillas, wings, and chicken fingers seem out of step with the Havana-chic vibe.
