With an attitude and decor that harkens back to Hollywood's Golden Age, The Derby is lively yet low-key, attracting a varied clientele of hipsters and old-timers looking for a fun spot to hit the dance floor. Made famous by Vince Vaughn and company in "Swingers," The Derby succeeded in putting Los Feliz on the map.
"We're still doing swing," co-owner Tammi Gower assures, "but we're bringing in a lot of other acts, even on a Friday or Saturday, including Robert Gordon and Lee Rocker. They're still danceable and still lively and we're always going to keep in that vein, but we'll remain on the cutting edge like we've always been, responding to all the different musical tastes of our clientele, but in the same beautiful environment."
Some might say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But for The Derby the old adage "change is good" works just as well. With its new Bohemian Room and live music from experimental and indie favorites on nights partnered with the Fold at the Silverlake Lounge, this restaurant/nightclub/lounge figures to be a destination of choice for years to come.
