With two foosball tables, two old-school Atari video games, an electronic dart board, five pool tables, and about a thousand ESPN-friendly TVs, the Shark’s Cove in Hermosa Beach is a sports fan’s wet dream—wet because the place is also loaded with alcohol. There are 20 varieties of bottled beer and 14 more on tap—available in 60-ounce pitchers—and a fair selection of wine and liquor, glasses of which can be purchased for only $3 from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There’s food as well—sandwiches, burgers, salads, soft-shell tacos, wings, and fish & chips—and either by design or disinterest, 90% of it seems to be at or around the $7 mark. The atmosphere isn’t much—imagine a Target store then paint it P.E.-locker-room-blue—but with Shark’s Cove’s amenities and prices, who really cares?
