All you really need to know about On the Waterfront is that it’s right on the beach, it has an outdoor patio and it serves pitchers of excellent German and American craft beer. On a warm, sunny day in Venice, this is the place to be. That it serves a large, curiously wide-ranging menu (from spaghetti carbonara to garden burgers to Zürcher Gschnätzlets) is a bonus. Of course, you don’t really come here to eat, do you? Since it’s right on the boardwalk, there’s plenty of people-watching available as you leisurely work your way through an Erdinger Dunkel or a Sam Adams or a festive 68-ounce Stiefel boot of Bitburger Premium. Smoking is allowed in the outdoor areas and parking is available in the back. Considering the large amounts of beer typically quaffed here, though, it might be best to walk or bike.
