One thinks of a lot of things when they think of Canter's- vintage L.A. Judaica, warm matzoh ball soup a 3 a.m., your grandmother compaining that you never went to law school- but loud rock music isn't high on the list.
The live-performance wing of Canter's (made famous by members of the Wallflowers and even Guns & Roses in the late 1980s/early 1990s) isn't as bustling as the deli, but loyalist Hollywood night owls still haunt it to keep the party going whilst sobering up a bit on giant sandwiches. Food is obviously a non-issue (as Canter's serves every dish a human can make), and drinks here are way stronger (and cheaper) than what you'll find accross the street at the Dime.
An all-around staple of the Fairfax district, that has a weekly open mic night every Sunday from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Other nights of the week you'll find alt-rock bands, blues bands, rock bands and even jazz. There is never a cover at the Kibbitz, and the quality of the musical offerings here are surprisingly good.
This bar is so well-liked, it's rumored several songs have been written about the Kibbitz, including Shawn Mullins' 1990s hit "Lullaby."
