The folks behind Forbidden City utilized the former Chinese restaurant by turning it into--gasp!--a tad fancier Chinese restaurant and nightclub. Red rules the exterior and interior, which is separated into four areas: the main stage and dance floor, a small side lounge with a bar, a second-floor lounge and a spacious outdoor patio. The menu reads like conventional take-out, with wonton soup, chow mein, Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken served family-style. The nightclub provides a diverse selection of partygoers who likely don’t live in L.A. proper. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of room (and the appropriate music) to boogie, and that’s action that’s never forbidden.
