Incredibly unpretentious compared to its neighbors like the Stone Rose at the Sofitel, the Coronet Pub is your standard blue-collar watering hole with prices easily budgeted into a working man's (or out-of-work actor's) wage.
The walls here are lined with old clown paintings and beer signs. The clientele is a varied mix of area residents, the theater crowd from the adjoining stage and odd passersby who has spent the night on restaurant row or at Star Strip (aka Girls!Girls!Girls!) across the street. It's easy to duck in and hide from the world in this quiet and dimly lit hole-in-the-wall. There isn't much cross-conversation between tables, so bring friends to talk with or you might end up drinking alone like George Thorogood. The service is a tad slow if you aren't sitting at the bar; some bartenders prefer watching TV than talking to the likes of you.
UPDATE: the Coronet closed Feb. 23 of 2008. The Guide will keep you posted if a new drinking establishment goes into the space.
