Cafe Boogaloo is quite simply Hermosa Beach’s answer to the House of Blues—a N’Orleans-style restaurant, bar and live music venue full of bayou charm despite being a stone’s throw from the Santa Monica Bay. Weathered wood, real brick walls and Cajun-voodoo/Elvis-Americana/blues-kitsch accoutrements create a warm vibe that strikes a chord with a multi-generational crowd. Surprisingly excellent blues, jazz and old-school R&B bands reign Wednesday through Sunday, which, of course, means there’s a cover--usually $5 to $10, but sometimes up to $20 for big-name acts and special occasions. With dishes like the Creole jambalaya--priced at $6 for a cup and $11 for a bowl--and the $10 Louisiana Catfish Po Boy, the menu caters to a Cajun palate, but there are lots of options for folks who don’t necessarily like their food blackened, and plenty of potables to wash it all down with at the fully stocked bar.
