Get out your creepers and hair pomade, your pedal pushers and red lipstick, and motor down to Bowl-a-Rama Rockabilly Night at All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock. Every other Saturday, a crowd of 20- and 30-something hep cats swing into this vintage bowling alley to knock down some pins, knock back a couple of cocktails, and rock out to such high-energy bands as the Paladins, 4 Deuces and Ray Campi.
The All Star Lounge adjacent to the lanes features a full bar and a restaurant serving bar food and dinner. The Red Dragon Chinese restaurant is attached to the rear of the alley. All Star has been around since 1960 and is strictly old-school. The balls return to bowlers on the original teal and chrome ball checks and there's no automatic scoring here, so you'd better know how to count your strikes and spares.
All Star's $12 cover charge gets you in to see the live bands and includes free bowling. The bands start playing at 8 p.m., but the house doesn't really get rocking until about 10 p.m. There's a small arcade and a couple of pool tables, and if you get bored, we recommend checking out the cherry hot rods in the parking lot.
